The Ministry of Defense has initiated the procedures to modify the order that regulates the requirements to access the Armed Forces and, in general, will eliminate the height limits, although they will continue to be required for destinations in certain units. As reported this Thursday in a statement from the Ministry directed by Margarita Robles, it is expected that this modification will begin to be applied in the next calls and selective processes of 2023. These limits for access to the escalation of officers of the Guard corps will also be eliminated Civil.
The change requires reforming the 2019 order by which the medical list of exclusions required for admission to military training centers was presented. That order sets height limits at 1.55 meters for women and 1.60 for men. Neither can access anyone who exceeds 2.03 meters.
Interior already announced a little over a year ago that they would also abolish the minimum height to enter the National Police from the next call, scheduled for this 2023. In the case of this police force, men have to be 1.65 meters tall at least, and women 1.60. These are required for physical activities that are necessary for special groups such as the GEO (Special Operations Group) and the riot police (included in the Police Intervention Units and Prevention and Reaction Units).
Spanish youth aged 19 in 2019 averaged an average of 1.76 meters, three more than in 1985, and Spanish youth averaged 1.62 meters, half a centimeter more than in 1985, according to a study that analyzes the size of 65 million Kids and boys in the whole world prepared for the Imperial College of London and the Magazine the lancetpublic in 2020.
