The Punjab Kings suffered a massive loss to the SunRisers Hyderabad in their previous IPL 2023 match. When asked to bat first, the PBKS batters fell short as they dropped to 88/9 over 15 overs. The team’s only salvation was their skipper Shikhar Dhawan, who stood like a one-man army from the start and took their total to 143/9 in 20 overs and went undefeated with 99 out of 66 balls. SRH later pursued the goal comfortably in just 17.1 overs. In addition, Dhawan has already scored 225 points in three matches and is currently the holder of the orange cap this season.
As the PBKS prepare for their upcoming match against the Gujarat Titans, former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif praised Dhawan and called him the “Khalifa of the IPL” who sets an example for the team.
“Punjab Kings bowling is good. A team that has good bowling has a better chance of finishing in the top four in the IPL. Shikhar Dhawan – Caliph of the IPL. He is fit and sets an example for his team. conditions have further enhanced his team’s chances of success this season,” Kaif told Star Sports.
The PBKS are ready to host the defending champions Gujarat Titans at their home stadium in Mohali on Thursday.
The team, led by Shikhar Dhawan, missed out on the services of their star English slugger Liam Livingston, who was waiting for his board to clear his injury. As he has now joined the team’s practice following his clearance, he is expected to play his first game of the season against GT.
The side led by Hardik Pandya will take part in this clash after losing to Kolkata Knight Riders where Rinku Singh made headlines with his latest heroism.
GT, who are currently fourth in the table with four points in three games, still have a great chance of topping the chart, but to do so they will have to team up collectively against PBKS who are fast becoming one of the toughest sides to overcome. .
