About the District
Conroe ISD stands out among Houston area schools by providing competitive salaries, providing quality professional development opportunities, and boasting the second-lowest property tax rate. More than 4,600 Conroe ISD employees responded to a third-party survey that resulted in it being recognized as both one of Houston Chronicle’s Top Workplaces and Forbes America’s Best-in-State Employers in 2021.
Conroe ISD SSO is an exceptional school district, boasting a high student-teacher ratio and outstanding teachers. Its rigorous academic program and impressive graduation rate make it a leader among Texas public school districts, while students also excel academically by passing over 6,500 Advanced Placement exams for almost 20,000 college credit hours while competing locally, state and nationally with championship successes to their name.
Recently, Montgomery County School District acquired 37 acres off Riley Fuzzel Road in Oak Ridge feeder zone and filed eminent domain proceedings on 46 additional nearby acres. Funding for land acquisition came from leftover 2008 bond funds without impacting residents of Montgomery County’s property tax rate.
Enrollment
Conroe ISD’s student body has experienced steady annual growth of roughly 1,500 students since 2015. That growth has put some schools close to capacity; Stewart and Snyder elementary campuses specifically are at or exceeding state-set threshold of 132% capacity, but when Gordon Reed Elementary opens in August it should provide some much-needed relief.
Hines states that the district utilizes 203 portables as temporary classrooms in order to help with overcrowding – not an ideal situation. “That equates to four schools worth of classrooms which are temporary.”
Demographic studies presented to the board in December revealed that Conroe ISD may see enrollment grow by as much as 120,000 students over the next decade, prompting it to consider holding a bond referendum to cover costs related to new construction and renovation projects as enrollment rises.
Academics
Students enrolled in either Bilingual/ESL Program or GT/Advanced Academic programs receive all the resources necessary for success – such as teacher training and models, research-based curriculum, instructional strategies and techniques as well as technology that enhance learning.
District 112 provides students with a host of athletic, career and technical education and fine arts courses. Furthermore, dual credit classes offered at Lone Star College will appear both on their high school transcript and Lone Star College transcript – giving students access to more opportunities and courses than ever.
Conroe ISD serves the City of Conroe as well as parts of Spring, Imperial Oaks and Shenandoah; Grangerland; Cut and Shoot as well as Porter Heights. Caney Creek High School also covers an expansive section of Montgomery County including River Plantation; this school district ranks fourth largest in Texas with highly qualified teachers and an above-average student-to-teacher ratio compared to Texas public schools.
