The fishing boat Herminio y Dolores has found two bodies submerged in the sea six miles off the coast of Dénia (Alicante, 43,899 inhabitants), according to sources from the Civil Guard, whose agents have accompanied the duty judge and the coroner in the uprising of the corpses. With these, there are already four deceased found on the Dianense coast in the last 20 days. The investigation tries to clarify whether they are migrants who were shipwrecked in their attempt to reach the Spanish coast.
Municipal sources indicate that the notice left the fishing boat around 10 am this Wednesday. About an hour and a half later, around 11:30 a.m., the bodies were inspected, of which it has only been possible to determine that they correspond to two men who had been submerged for a long time at a depth of about one hundred meters, given the poor condition in which they were. For their motivation, they could be related to the findings, on April 23 and 24, and by the ships Miguel and Isabel and El Montgó, of two other bodies, in better conditions for their identification, which could have formed part of the same crew, according to sources known to the case. On this occasion, the lifeless bodies were found about five miles from the coast of Dénia, a city located in the north of the province, bordering Valencia, and capital of the Marina Alta region.
The Alicante coast is the frequent destination for small boats that generally leave from Algeria. Just yesterday, the Salvamar Leo vessel, belonging to Maritime Rescue, intercepted a small boat with 43 people on board, including four minors, one mile off the coast of the provincial capital. The Red Cross, which mobilized an Immediate Emergency Response team to the arrival of migrants at the port of Alicante, counted 28 men, eleven women and four minors, two girls aged 12 and 17 and two boys aged 17. Ten of the women rescued were of Syrian origin, while the rest of the boat’s crew came from Algeria and Morocco.
As detailed by Europa Press, this ship is the third to arrive on the Alicante coast in 2023, after one in which 13 men were traveling and another with 18 men on board, one of them a minor.
