Former Indian cricket team batsman Mohammad Kaif has expressed concern about Jasprit Bamra’s path to recovery from injuries and questioned the National Cricket Academy (NCA) under VVS Laxman about the lack of “transparency” regarding the expected timing of his return. Bumra has been out of action since September 2022 and a back injury caused him to miss the Asian Cup as well as the ODI World Championship. The fast bowler is currently recovering from injury but nothing is clear about his readiness for the World Testing Championship final against Australia in June 2023.
“I noticed glitches in the system. The players were selected for the squad and then kicked out before the match, citing that they were not in full form. This happened to Bumra recently and even Mohammad Shami did it a couple of times,” Kaif told Sportskeeda.
“Therefore, NCA coaches, physical therapists, Air Force Laxman and his team must take care of these situations. Because it’s not fair to the cricket fans who expect Bamra to play the next day. I feel that this is a very serious matter and management should not take this lightly,” he added during the conversation.
Kaif went on to say that Bamra’s absence was a sad event for cricket fans and asked the NCA to provide a definitive update along with the administrators when it comes to the fast bowler.
“There must be transparency and players must be properly tested before they are deemed fit. There should be no gray area; the player is either healthy or it will take another 10-20 days. As a fan of Bumra, I want to know what kind of injury he has, what is his recovery time, etc. So they should consider this issue of transparency and state the specific issue, ”he concluded.
