Veteran batter Ambati Rayudu said goodbye to the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this week after the final between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. Rajudu, who announced that IPL 2023 would be his final season as a player, ended his career in a fabulous way when CSK defeated GT to win a record-breaking fifth title. In his 204 league games, Rayudu scored 4,348 runs and won the league six times, the joint highest record he set with Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma.
Former India captain Anil Kumble believes Rayudu should have been in the squad for the 2019 ODI World Cup in England. Kumble also acknowledged that the breeder made a huge mistake by not selecting Rayuda for the roster.
“Raiudu was supposed to play at the 2019 World Cup. Oh yes, there is no doubt about that. It was a huge mistake. You’ve been preparing him for this role for so long, and his name just disappeared from the cast. Still, it was amazing.” – Kumble said at Jio Cinema after the finale.
Rayudu, who was India’s top scorer at the 2018 Asian Championships, was not included in the squad for the 2019 ODI World Cup.
After being ignored by the selectors, Rayudu announced his retirement from international cricket. However, he made a quick U-turn and returned to retirement.
However, ahead of the 2023 IPL final, Raiudu said that the match between CSK and GT would be his last in the tournament, adding that there would be no reversal this time around.
