As the Indian cricket team reach the final of the Test World Cup against Australia, there are questions about the kit of skipper Rohit Sharma. The hitman has had a regular season for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, prompting many to wonder if he will be able to compete for the title against Australia. However, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar doesn’t think Rohit’s IPL form should even be a concern as India gears up for the Test.
Although the Mumbai Indians made it to the IPL playoffs, Rohit didn’t make much of a difference at bat. In 16 matches, Hitman only scored 332 runs, averaging 20.75 and 132.80 hits. However, Manjrekar remains indifferent.
“Leave his IPL form aside because he looked out of shape in the last IPL as well…we saw the amazing shot he put in in the first Test match against Australia. It seems to be the most exciting format for him as well as for Virat Kohli,” Manjrekar told Star Sports.
Regarding the technical aspects of Rohit’s performance, Manjrekar said that Rohit’s performance in the game’s longest format is almost “flawless”.
“At this point, his shots in Test cricket have become almost flawless. There’s only one problem we’ve seen in test matches – he sometimes pulls out. They gave him a short ball and left a fielder there. It’s an instinctive shot.”
“If you look at ODI cricket, his pull shot is extremely interesting. His back lift does not come from above, so he can kick the ball down. He has a very low back lift, he just picks up the ball and then the bat comes behind him to give him power,” he explained.
The WTC Final will take place at the Oval starting June 7th.
