Former Indian cricket team skipper Sunil Gavaskar picked India’s preferred XI game in the World Testing Championship (WTC) final against Australia, and it came with a couple of surprises. In the race for the goalkeeper, he chose KS Bharat to keep his position as he plays regularly for the team. Gavaskar also went with two spinners at the Oval and three tempo bowlers, but added that this strategy would work on a “clear day” and any change in playing conditions would change the combination.
“I will talk about batting and it will be Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill just one or two. No. 3 – (Cheteshwar) Pujara, No. 4 – (Virat) Kohli, No. 5 – Ajinkya Rahane,” Gavaskar said.
“I believe #6 will be either (KS) Bharat or Ishan Kishan. They talk about Bharat because he has already played all those matches. So he will probably stay with Bharat at six,” he added.
As for bowling, Gavaskar went with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeya, as well as three players – Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur.
“Number seven will be (Ravindra) Jadeja. If it is a clear day and a bright prediction, then I think you are looking at Jadeja and (Ravichandran) Ashwin at No. 7 and No. 8,” said the former skipper from India. “Nos. 9, 10 and 11 will be Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj and possibly Shardul Thakur.”
