During Ravi Shastri’s tenure as India’s coach, the team reached several heights in Test cricket. He and then-India captain Virat Kohli formed a powerful duo in Indian cricket and started a fitness-focused culture. Shastri is currently working as a cricket pundit. Recently, during a fun chat on ESPN Cricinfo where he answered questions from fans, he asked an interesting question. “If he had the opportunity to coach CSK or MI, who would he choose?” a fan asked.
The answer was even more surprising: “Both. The money offered should be slightly higher on one side. The scale should go up. It’s very obvious.”
Shastri recently lauded Mumbai Indians (MI) batsman Tilak Varma and said he would be very surprised if the youngster didn’t play for the country for the next six to eight months. On Tuesday, Tilak scored a decisive 41 of 29 goals and shared 68 points with skipper Rohit Sharma as the Mumbai Indians took their first win of the season since beating the Delhi Capitals. Shastri was impressed with Tilak’s performance at IPL 2023, saying that the 20-year-old already looks like a “player from India”.
“Already a player from India. This guy is an Indian player and I would be very surprised if he doesn’t play T20 cricket for India in the next six or eight months. a world of difference from the Indian middle class,” Shastri told Star Sports.
After leaving the post of head coach of the Indian national team, Shastri again put on the role of commentator. But, if the right offer comes in, he could return to coaching in one form or another.
