The Punjab Kings will play the Gujarat Titans in their upcoming IPL 2023 match on Thursday in Mohali. After two straight wins in their campaign, the Punjab Kings were brutally thrashed by the SunRisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in their previous IPL 2023 match. When asked to bat first, the PBKS batters fell short as their record dropped to 88/9 in 15 overs. The team’s only salvation was their skipper Shikhar Dhawan, who stood like a one-man army from the start and took their total to 143/9 in 20 overs and went undefeated with 99 out of 66 balls. SRH later pursued the goal comfortably in just 17.1 overs.
The PBKS missed the services of their star English slugger Liam Livingston, who was waiting for his board’s clearance regarding his injury. As he has now joined the team’s training after being cleared, he is expected to play his first game of the season against the Gujarat Titans.
GT, who are currently fourth in the table with four points in three games, still have a great chance of topping the chart, but to do so they will have to team up collectively against PBKS who are fast becoming one of the toughest sides to overcome. .
Considering their current form, the PBKS’ eight-wicket loss to the Sunrisers Hyderabad may just be an aberration given the form of their captain Shikhar Dhawan and young left hand bowler Arshdeep Singh.
Dhawan’s serve in Hyderabad on 9 April was a testament to the tenacity of die-hard opponents and his ability to remain calm when wickets fell like skittles at the other end.
