Could both Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin be in India’s XI game in the World Testing Championship final against Australia? The tricky question doesn’t seem to have a definitive answer, at least not until conditions on the Oval are absolutely clear. Opinions about Jadeja vs Ashwin are divided, with some pundits preferring left-handed spins, while others prefer right-handed spins. Ricky Ponting, however, believes that the Indian team will choose both Jadea and Ashwin, although the latter is clearly the “more experienced and better test bowler” for the Australian legend.
“I really think they will pick Jadea and Ashwin,” Ponting told The ICC Review. “Hadeia can hold that place at number 6. His batting has improved so much that they can choose him as a batter who can just throw a few overs if need be.”
As for the bowling department, Ponting has no doubt that Ashwin is a better choice than Jadeja.
“There is no doubt that Ashwin is a more experienced and better bowler in the Tests than Jadeja,” Ponting said.
Ponting is betting that both Jadeja and Ashwin will be selected as he believes the duo could prove to be very influential once the ball starts spinning on Day 4 and Day 5 of the WTC Finals.
“But if Jadeja can hold that spot for a hit, and then when the game goes into day four and day five, if it really starts to spin, then you have a really high-end second spin bowling option. This is definitely what I would do,” he said.
India selected Jadea and Ashwin as part of the XI during the 2021 WTC Finals. While Ashwin took a total of four wickets in the match, Jadeja only managed to take one.
