Former Pakistan cricket skipper Javed Miandad commented on the controversy over India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the Asian Cup, citing security concerns. While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made its position clear on the issue, reports have claimed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also threatened to withdraw from the World Cup in India. However, nothing concrete has emerged so far. A new report has claimed that Pakistan could end up playing its World Cup matches in Kolkata and Chennai, according to a source close to the events.
Miandad said on Nadir Ali’s podcast that he thought Pakistan would have no problem visiting India and now it’s India’s turn to come to Pakistan for the tournament.
“Forget security. We believe that agar maut aani hai toh aani hai. Zindagi aur maut toh allah ke haath mein hai ”(If death is your destiny, it will definitely come. Life and death are in the hands of the Almighty). If they call us today, we’ll go. But they must return. The fact is that we were the last time, but since then they have not come here. Now it’s their turn,” said the ex-Pakistani skipper.
India and Pakistan have not faced each other in bilateral series since 2012.
Previously, former Pakistan captain Imran Khan called the BCCI “arrogant” about their decision and even accused them of acting like a “superpower”.
“Relations between Pakistan and India are a sad and unfortunate affair. There is a lot of arrogance in the way India is now behaving in the world of cricket as a superpower. Because of their ability to generate a lot of funds, more than any other country, I think they are almost dictating right now, like a kind of superpower arrogance, who they should play and who they shouldn’t,” Imran told Times Radio.
