Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are undoubtedly one of the most popular teams in Indian Premier League (IPL) history thanks to their charismatic leader MS Dhoni who has been holding the baton since 2008. Over the years, several new generations of players have come in, played under Dhoni, and left. 16 years after the first edition of the league began, the T20 Dhoni is still “permanent”. Even at the age of 41, Dhoni knows how to get the most out of the youth on the pitch and make them feel comfortable.
At a party for CSK, attended by Dhoni and Rajvardhan Khangargekar, the former trolls a young pacer in front of the audience. Here’s how the conversation went:
“Good evening everyone. Very happy to be here. Like Mahi Bhaya said, Ki jitna jyada hum iss event ko fun kar sakte hai, acha hasi mazak mein rakh sakte hai, utna try karenge, aur, let’s see” (Good evening everyone, As Dhoni said, we can have some fun and some laughs at this event, we will try to do that), Khangargekar said from the stage.
“Essentially, bol raha hai koi iske no-ball ke baare mein baat nahi karega (essentially he says no one will talk about his lack of balls),” Dhoni interrupted, leaving the audience by surprise.
Not too long ago, Dhoni was angry at his bowlers’ lack of discipline on the pitch. In a match against the Lucknow Super Giatns, Dhoni said that if his bowlers couldn’t control the lack of ball and the wide ball, they would have to play under a new captain.
“They won’t have to play without balls or extra wilds. Or they will have to play under a new captain. This will be my second warning and then I will leave,” Dhoni said.
The 20-year-old has scored six wides and one no-ball in six overs for CSK this season. He did not participate in Game XI against Mumbai Indians in the last match.
