India and Australia are gearing up to face each other in the highly anticipated final of the World Testing Championship, taking place on June 7th at The Oval. Both teams are sweating in the draw as they look to add another coveted ICC trophy to their name. With only three days left until the main event, the ICC held a fun event with Team Australia where all the players were asked to name the worst gift they would like to give their star slugger Steve Smith.
Most of the players came up with a common response that was related to Smith’s hit. It is noteworthy that Smith celebrated his 34th birthday on June 2.
“Tell him training is canceled or he’s not allowed to hit,” Australia captain Pat Cummins said in a video posted by ICC on Instagram.
“I feel like this is going to be talked about a lot, not hit for a week,” wagon Mitchell Marsh said.
“Bring him something at Kmart,” Labushagne said when Usman Khawaja came to an end. “Not a single day,” said Matthew Renshaw.
“Perhaps you’re right, if he wasn’t allowed to kick the ball today, he’d have a bad birthday,” Stark agreed with his teammates.
“Probably the day off at cricket practice,” said Scott Boland.
Later, Smith was asked who could give him the worst gift, then he said: “Perhaps Marnus, I think he will give me something stupid.”
Smith is currently one of the top batsmen in Test cricket with a total of 8,792 runs in 96 matches.
Recently, former captain Aaron Finch said he would bet his money on Smith, even as Australia also needs to get rid of Indian star hitter Virat Kohli as early as possible during the WTC final.
“Both[Kohli and Smith]will hit number four, so the key is to try and get them as early as possible. Early wickets to open up a new ball for them will be absolutely key. I will always side with Steve Smith. “I think his record is outstanding, but it will be a very good competition,” Finch told Star Sports.
