After facing the wrath of Kolkata Knight Riders’ Rinku Singh in their previous match, the Gujarat Titans are ready to take on the Punjab Kings in their next IPL 2023 match on Thursday in Mohali. Regular skipper Hardik Pandya missed the match against KKR due to ill health and spinner Rashid Khan took over as captain in his absence. KKR were chasing 205 and needed 29 from the last over when Rinku Singh busted five sixes off Yash Dayal to lead his side to a three-wicket win.
GT had several heroes on that electrifying night, including a young Sai Sudarshan, Vijay Shankar and an Afghan hat tricker, Rashid Khan, who led the team in place of the ailing Hardik Pandya. As Hardik returns to the team, the team is expected to make a few changes.
GT, who are currently fourth in the table with four points in three games, still have a great chance of topping the chart, but to do so they will have to team up collectively against PBKS who are fast becoming one of the toughest sides to overcome. .
GT will be wary of Dhawan’s form and Hardik knows all too well how the experienced cricketer from Delhi can’t wait to prove himself once again. It could very well be a contest between Dhawan and Shubman Gill as the former still wants to prove himself and compete for a spot on Team India at the home ODI World Championship later this year.
The way Dhawan and young partner Prabhsimran Singh have been successful on the powerplay indicates that they are unlikely to change their strategy against GT, which has bowlers of the caliber of Mohammed Shami, Hardik and Rashid, to name but a few.
