A terrific form in the Indian Premier League has given Indian star player Shubman Gill “a bit of confidence” ahead of the World Testing final against Australia starting on Wednesday, but he insisted the five-day game would be a completely different proposition. Gill was in brilliant contact with the Gujarat Titans in this year’s IPL, smashing three centuries to become the top scoring slugger of the tournament with 890 runs averaging just under 60. a completely different scenario and a completely different game,” Gill told ICC.
“But that’s the fun. Last week we played something completely different with a different atmosphere and that’s a challenge and that’s what’s interesting about Test cricket.” Gill was part of the Indian squad that lost to New Zealand in the first World Testing final by eight wickets at Southampton in 2021, with the stylish right-hander scoring 28 and 8 points.
Gill, 23, said his team learned a lot from the disappointing loss to the New Zealanders.
“We talked about some of the things we learned as a team and especially as a batting group playing that match,” he said.
“Hopefully we can fix the mistakes we made last time.” Senior slugger Cheteshwar Pujara, who has already acclimated to English conditions with another appearance for Sussex in the Second Division County Championship, believes India is well prepared for the competition.
“We had a very good preparation, so hopefully we will cross the line this time,” said Pujara.
“Most of the guys have played enough cricket here, and some of them have played county cricket too.” Pujara scored three centuries with 545 runs from eight innings during his tenure.
“You need that experience … we know each other’s strengths and we’ve played a lot of cricket against Australia so we know what to expect from the opposing team.”
