The fighting is one of the best parts of Dark Souls. Those who want to get stronger might want to think about these big tools.
It doesn’t need to be said that Dark Souls was a huge accomplishment. The game’s huge history pretty much speaks for itself, after all. There are a lot of ways that Dark Souls has changed the gaming industry. It started the golden age of From Software and has inspired a lot of new games, indie and otherwise, to try to copy what made it great. Dark Souls is great in many ways, and one of them is the fighting. There are a lot of different weapons that can be used. The person should be able to choose different tools, though, based on whether they want to build Strength or Dexterity.
Many people who have played Dark Souls before love strength weapons. They love the idea of hitting enemies hard with them and watching their life bars drop quickly. It’s important for players to time their swings with most Strength weapons so they don’t get caught in the middle of a blow. This is easier said than done, but Dark Souls players who practice enough will soon be able to easily eliminate the most tough monsters… as long as they keep their cool.
Dragon Bone Fist
Damage | 142 Physical (Regular +5) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | S in Strength |
Requirements | 20 Strength |
In Dark Souls, guns don’t always have to be useful, like having long ranges or doing a lot of damage. That’s not why people play Dark Souls or any other video game. They play to have fun and be as creative as they can to see how far they can push the features of any game.
The Dragon Bone Fist is the most embarrassing tool in Dark Souls that players should use to make their enemies look bad. If players are good enough at this tool, it’s a lot of fun to smash enemies into mush and block their attacks with ease.
Pickaxe
Damage | 222 Physical (Regular +15) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | A in Strength |
Requirements | 14 Strength |
Most people would think that a pickaxe is too simple to beat some of the game’s more flashy weapons. If a player likes the way the pickaxe moves, they can easily change it into any other tool they want. This is one area where Dark Souls really shines.
When played by someone with enough Strength points, the pickaxe is a beautiful weapon that can cut and dispose of enemies. It’s easy to see why some people might not mind doing a run with the pickaxe as their main tool, since players love to push themselves in the game.
Gough’s Greatbow
Damage | 127 Physical (Regular +5) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | B in Strength, C in Dexterity |
Requirements | 27 Strength, 20 Dexterity |
Dark Souls ranged weapons can be hard to use, so most new players would rather stick to basic weapons and not try to do anything fancy. But for players who don’t mind trying new things, buying Gough’s Greatbow can be a very smart move.
Shooting enemies from a distance is always a nice plus, even if it means buying a lot of arrows to make sure they don’t run out during an especially scary run. When improved to its fullest ability, Gough’s Greatbow is huge, needs a lot of strength, and hits like a truck.
Club
Damage | 182 Physical (Regular +15) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | A in Strength |
Requirements | 11 Strength, 10 Dexterity |
That being said, Dark Souls has some truly amazing and fun tools to use. At first look, it’s easy to see why using a simple club might seem like a waste of all the other tools that Strength builds can use very well.
But players who only care about how useful a weapon is know that the Club is very useful, especially early in the game. You can get this weapon for very little money, and it does a lot of damage. However, if you miss with it, you’re pretty open to attack.
Stone Greataxe
Damage | 285 Physical (Regular +5) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | B in Strength, E in Dexterity |
Requirements | 48 Strength, 10 Dexterity |
In Dark Souls, the Stone Guardian is a strong enemy that can be found in Royal Wood, which was added with the Artorias of the Abyss DLC. This enemy can do a lot of damage, so players should use its slow movements to finish it off without getting too greedy.
If the player is interested in the axe that this monster enemy uses, they need to get ready for a long grind. This enemy might drop the Stone Greataxe every 2% of the time. This is a fun tool to use and show off if the RNG gods are on your side.
Large Club
Damage | 300 Physical (Regular +5) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | A in Strength |
Requirements | 26 Strength |
Most of the time, the Large Club should be put much higher than some of Dark Souls’ other best strength weapons, just because it does so much damage. However, this tool is very rare and can only be found in Blighttown, which is also the worst place in the game.
When you get the Large Club, you should celebrate because it has one of the strongest charged moves in the game. It’s too bad that most players will never get to use this weapon since it drops so rarely.
Reinforced Club
Damage | 242 Physical (Regular +15) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | B in Strength |
Requirements | 12 Strength |
There may be better Strength weapons out there, but the Reinforced Club is a great choice for new players who don’t want to grind or get themselves into a tough spot to get a certain weapon.
With that in mind, the Reinforced Club is an excellent tool for this situation. It’s possible to finish the game with this weapon, which makes it a great early-game Strength weapon.
Stone Greatsword
Damage | 222 Physical, 150 Magic (Regular +5) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | C in Strength, C in Dexterity, E in Intelligence |
Requirements | 40 Strength, 10 Dexterity |
This blade is famous for being used by the stone knights who guard Darkroot Garden and a few other places to fight the Chosen Undead. At first glance, it seems strange because it has average scaling for Strength and Dexterity but low scaling for Intelligence, even though it needs 40 Strength to be used properly.
It does physical damage as well, though, which can help you fight a lot of enemies in PVE. Plus, the two-handed strong attack makes a miracle that is similar to the Tranquil Walk of Peace, a lot like the one stone knights use. This is a great way to slow down any PVP enemies or attackers.
Claymore
Damage | 257 Physical (Regular +15) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | C in Strength, C in Dexterity |
Requirements | 16 Strength, 10 Dexterity |
You can use the Claymore as a great tool in both PvE and PvP. A big plus for this tool is that it’s found pretty early on… even though getting it is pretty hard.
After avoiding the Hellkite Wyvern’s fire, the player can run as fast as they can until they land right under this dragon. Next to the body will be this weapon. When you upgrade this tool, it becomes a real beast in battle.
Zweihander
Damage | 325 Physical (Regular +15) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | C in Strength, D in Dexterity |
Requirements | 24 Strength, 10 Dexterity |
Some people think the Claymore is a great tool on its own, but most people think the Zweihander is better for a number of reasons.
Even though you have to do a bit of a suicide run to get it, you can get it earlier than the Claymore, which makes it an even better suggestion. It can also do some pretty good damage early in the game.
Gravelord Sword
Damage | 397 Physical (Weapon +5) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | E in Strength, E in Dexterity |
Requirements | 24 Strength, 13 Dexterity |
This bent greatsword lives up to its name because it was used by Gravelord Nito, the First of the Dead. Many people don’t pay attention to the Gravelord Sword at first because it doesn’t do much damage and doesn’t scale well. But as soon as they learn about its other benefits, they quickly change their minds. This bent sword and greatsword does more than just slash damage, though. Nito’s sword has trust attacks as well, which can be very useful in hallways and against protected enemies that are immune to cut damage.
In addition, this is one of only two weapons in the game that can apply Toxic build-up. When it’s fully charged, it will stay on the target for ten minutes at five damage per second, making it feel like you’ll be hurt forever if you’re in PVP.
Dragon Greatsword
Damage | 585 Physical (Regular +5) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | None |
Requirements | 50 Strength, 10 Dexterity |
A lot of people probably know how powerful dragon weapons are in Dark Souls. The power of these beasts that will never die lives on in the blades that were made from their tails. There is a limit to how useful dragon weapons can be because they can’t be improved or scaled. However, they have many other benefits. You can get the Dragon Greatsword by cutting off the tail of the Everlasting Dragon in Ash Lake. It has one of the biggest base damage of any weapon in the game.
It also protects against fire and magic weapons and makes the person much more resistant to all status changes when they use it. As slow as other ultra-greatswords are, the two-handed strong attack cuts quickly and vertically, going farther than expected. This makes it perfect for stopping quick opponents.
Demon Great Machete
Damage | 332 Physical (Regular +5) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | A in Strength |
Requirements | 40 Strength |
As it turns out, this list pretty much fits every Demon weapon in the game, so it’s not a surprise that one of these guns made it.
Even though the Demon Great Machete is slower than most other greatswords, the huge amount of damage it can do with ease more than makes up for it.
Butcher Knife
Damage | 225 Physical (Regular +15) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | A in Strength |
Requirements | 24 Strength |
It may seem strange that a knife is so high on the list, but Dark Souls veterans will know right away how powerful the famous Butcher Knife is. The Butcher Knife isn’t really a knife, but it looks like one. It has a long range, does a lot of damage, and has some cool moves that will keep PvP players wondering.
The Butcher Knife is also great because every hit heals 5HP. Even though this may not seem like much, multiple hits can help heal the player and keep Estus Flasks from running out.
Man-Serpent Greatsword
Damage | 275 Physical (Regular +15) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | A in Strength |
Requirements | 24 Strength |
A lot of people think the Man-Serpent Greatsword is one of the best weapons in the game and that anyone who wants to build Strength should have it. The main reason for this is that this Greatsword is very powerful and can swiftly eliminate many enemies.
The Man-Serpent Greatsword is highly regarded, though, mostly because its moves are so much fun to use. This makes it a good choice for both PvE and PvP battles.
Black Knight Greatsword
Damage | 330 Physical (Regular +5) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | B in Strength, E in Dexterity |
Requirements | 32 Strength, 18 Dexterity |
Most enemies can’t even get one hit off before the Black Knight guns destroy them. They are some of the strongest weapons in Dark Souls. These guns can’t be improved, but most people won’t need to because they’re so powerful.
The Black Knight Greatsword is very slow, but if Space Bar Clicker players time their hits right, they can easily wipe out enemies. When using this weapon, it’s best to hit and dodge enemies to get ahead quickly and then use a smooth attack that does a lot of damage.
Black Knight Halberd
Damage | 367 Physical (Regular +5) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | D in Strength, E in Dexterity |
Requirements | 32 Strength, 18 Dexterity |
Before we talk about why the Black Knight Halberd is such a great tool, it’s important to note that it’s terrible for PvP. Very slow, needs a lot of energy, and players are left open when they miss a hit.
Although, it is true that this tool does a huge amount of damage, especially if you get it early in the game. This weapon is the clear choice among speedrunners because it makes fights much easier and is capable of dispatching a lot of enemies.
Black Knight Greataxe
Damage | 343 Physical (Regular +5) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | B in Strength, E in Dexterity |
Requirements | 36 Strength, 18 Dexterity |
A lot of people think that the Greataxe is the best Black Knight tool out there. This is high praise, since the other two tools are already very strong and useful.
The Black Knight Greataxe is very powerful and eliminates most enemies before they can do anything. Even though you need a lot of Strength to use this tool, it’s well worth the cost.
Demon’s Great Hammer
Damage | 345 Physical (Regular +15) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | B in Strength |
Requirements | 46 Strength |
The Great Hammer is one of the Demon weapons that shows up again. One of the main reasons why so many players love this weapon so much is that it does so much damage.
This weapon might have been the most powerful on this list if it weren’t for another weapon in the same line that does everything this one does… better, though.
Great Club
Damage | 337 Physical (Regular +15) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | A in Strength |
Requirements | 28 Strength |
People who play Dark Souls know that the Great Club is a famous tool. One look at this weapon’s moves and damage is more than enough to show why this is the case.
Players might have to wander around Blighttown a lot more than they’d like in order to find this tool, but the reward is well worth it.
Dragon King Greataxe
Damage | 570 Physical (Regular +5) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | None |
Requirements | 50 Strength, 8 Dexterity |
This royal axe is one of the few dragon weapons that can be improved, so many people think it’s the best. This, along with its huge base damage, makes it one of the striking weapons in the game that can do the most damage in a single hit. To use it, you need to be at least 50 Strength, but the level grind is worth it if the Chosen Undead want a powerful weapon.
As with other dragon weapons, the Dragon King Greataxe reduces damage from fire and magic and protects against status effects. However, the best thing about this axe is its two-handed strong attack, which sends a shockwave around the player for a great AOE attack.
Dragon Tooth
Damage | 435 Physical (Regular +5) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | D in Strength |
Requirements | 40 Strength |
People who play games are often scared of the infamous Dragon Tooth, which was once used by the legendary Havel the Rock. Dragon Tooth has all the usual perks of dragon weapons, plus it can be improved and even grows with your Strength stat, though not quickly.
This huge hammer’s fallen fang from an ancient beast does crazy damage to opponents’ balance and can stun-lock them into submission if the user has the strength to do so. It’s a great Dark Souls tool for any Strength Build.
Demon’s Greataxe
Damage | 285 Physical (Regular +15) |
---|---|
Stat Scaling | S in Strength |
Requirements | 46 Strength |
The Demon’s Greataxe is without a doubt the strongest tool that does the most damage. With just one shot, this tool may quickly eliminate an enemy or take away a lot of their life.
This, along with the fact that this weapon has a strong S scaling for Strength, makes it a great choice for any character who wants to build Strength.
