Imagine that you are employed by your company as a Lotus Notes administrator. Your company is now moving to Microsoft Outlook. Different file formats are supported by both email clients for storing inbox contents. Emails and other business data are stored by Lotus Notes in an NSF database, often known as notes storage format. Outlook generates a PST file, or personal storage table, to hold all of the mailbox contents, such as emails and their attachments, contacts, calendars, tasks, notes, journals, and so on.
It is not possible to utilise your old emails and other data in Microsoft Outlook if you were formerly using Lotus Notes, which is now known as IBM Notes. Outlook client does not support NSF format, thus you cannot access or read your previous mailbox data that is saved in an NSF database. You must convert your NSF database files into PST format in order to view or open them in Outlook.
There is no tool in Outlook or Lotus Notes to convert NSF databases to PST format. However, you may export Lotus Notes emails to Microsoft Outlook using a manual method. It is not possible to export the NSF database directly; however, you may export emails from Lotus Notes in the Comma Separated Value or Structured Text formats. Microsoft Outlook supports both of these formats. Once the data from NSF files has been exported into one of these formats, you may use Microsoft Outlook’s Import & Export tool to import the files.
To learn how to export Lotus Notes emails, follow these steps:
Step1: On your computer, launch the IBM Notes (Lotus Notes) client programme.
Step 2: In order to export data, you must first access the NSF database.
Step 3: Select the File tab under the Menu section and then select Export… from the list of alternatives.
Step 4: Select a location to save the new file by browsing through it in the Export wizard.
After defining the location, select Save as Type by clicking the drop-down arrow.
1. One alternative is to choose a comma-separated value. Choose the desired export data amount on the CSV Export dialogue box. Press OK.
2. Another option is to choose structured text. Set the desired export data amount in the Structured Text dialogue box. Press OK.
The chosen data from the NSF database file will be successfully exported to the specified file format in a matter of minutes. You may now use Microsoft Outlook’s Import & Export tool to import this new file. Take the easy actions listed below:
Step 1: Launch the email app on your computer, Microsoft Outlook.
Step 2: Select File > Open > Import under the Menu area.
Step 3: Choose Import from another software or file from the Import and Export Wizard.Select Next to proceed with the procedure.
Step 4: Choose Comma Separated Values (Windows) from the list of possibilities on the Import a file wizard.Select Next to proceed with the procedure.
Step 5: At this point, choose the file you wish to import into Outlook. To choose the file and the choices, click Browse. Select Next to proceed with the procedure.
Step 6: Choose the mailbox location where the CSV file is to be imported. Select Next.
Step 7: To begin importing the file into the Outlook mailbox folder, select Finish at this point.
Step 8: Your system is now undergoing the importing procedure. Please be patient till it is finished.
Unlike third-party software, this approach is simple to use, secure, and cost-free. I have walked non-technical people through the entire procedure step-by-step to make it easier. However, the main disadvantage of this manual method is that it takes a lot of time, particularly if you need to export and import a lot of mailbox data. In this case, you might attempt using specialised software to complete this operation quickly and easily.
Obtain the Free NSF to PST Converter utility, designed to export data and emails from Lotus Notes to Outlook PST files. It converts NSF to PST securely and doesn’t alter or lose any data from the original NSF database files. A demo version of the programme is available for users to test.
