To make it simple, a computer is an electronic tool used for storing and manipulating data. In modern technology, the computer is King because it takes precedence over everything else. Nowadays computers are everywhere—including schools, banks, hospitals, and countless other places where they often prove indispensable. In essence, computers are pretty much part and parcel of virtually all forms of commerce or learning.
Major components of a computer set
Central processing unit
The brain of the computer is the CPU, also known as the Processor; it executes the received instructions from both software and hardware, and manages data. It often does calculations, performs operations and performs data processing
Memory
Computers have two types of memory which include RAM (Random Access Memory) and ROM (Read Only Memory). RAM is used to provide fast temporary storage for data and programs that are currently be used while ROM storage like hard disk drives and SSDs maintains data even when turned off. Memory components are used to store the information which can be modified and processed later.
Input and output devices
The machines that allow us to submit commands and data or get any output are called input and output devices. These devices take many forms and sizes when it comes to computer devices used for input or output. The user connects one’s computer through its input/output devices. In essence, a computer is built around input/output hardware that determines its primary role. In order to give computers commands, users need input devices like keyboards, mouse pads, etc.
Motherboard
The motherboard is likened to the human brain; it directs all the functions of the other hardware components. Each feeding the charge; the Central Processing Unit (CPU), Random Access Memory (RAM) and many others. Also the computer set price concerning the motherboard differs from standard to standard.
Graphics processing units
GPU is short for Graphics Processing Unit. The job of GPUs is to render images and movies. This makes them crucial for tasks such as gaming and graphic design.
Network interface card
Network Interface Card (NIC) is a device that lets your computer connect to the Internet and other network gear.
What is computer software and hardware?
Hardware
Hardware refers to physical computer parts that we can touch; such as the mouse or keyboard. Like in the image below, it’s internal value also lies in it.
Software
Software in a computer is a set of commands or instructions which control the actions of the machine. It is a bunch of commands,data or computer programs that are used to run machines and accomplish specific tasks. Software is intangible as we cannot hold it. Absence of software will render a computer to be just a tin box.
Final Thoughts
In today’s world it is beyond our ability to conceive life without computers. If by some means this technology disappears our whole life would not only come to a standstill, but it would also be blank.
