The Mumbai Indians are expected to take the field without their top bowler, Jofra Archer, in the Indian Premier League’s fourth match against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Mumbai on Sunday afternoon. Archer missed the last two games for the Mumbai Indians, playing in the season opener in Bangalore on 2 April, as a new elbow problem forced him out of the game.
Archer’s unavailability has certainly exacerbated MI’s problems, who have one win in three games so far, with their leader Jasprit Bamra also missing the entire IPL 2023.
“Jof is currently under the care of the medical team and I am not involved in these conversations. Whenever they get him ready to play, he will be ready to play,” Tim David, a Mumbai-Australian batsman, told reporters. Match conference on Saturday.
While the right bowler had an easy bowling session here on Saturday afternoon away from practice nets, he returned later to bat and looked at ease playing big shots.
David said it’s difficult to plan hitters like KKR’s Rinku Singh, who hit five straight sixes when it took his team 28 runs to win from the last five against the Gujarat Titans to record an incredible run.
Even in Friday night’s KKR scoring match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rinku hit four sixes and as many fours to avoid hitting 31 and 58, albeit in the loss.
“They (KKR) have some dangerous batsmen and (if) our bowlers get them out (early) that would be the perfect start for us,” David admitted.
“But no, I think it’s hard to plan. We are more focused on ourselves and we want to play well and we know that when we play our best cricket we will come out on top.” The dashing Aussie slugger said that despite the Mumbai Indians’ dominant record against KKR of eight wins in nine matches here at Wankhede Stadium – the challenge will be tough on Sunday afternoon.
“I don’t know how many games I’ve played so it’s hard for me to comment. This is a new team (MI), but this is our home arena. As a home team here we get a lot of support and we want to make it our stronghold,” he said.
“We want to always get good results and we want to be sure of the style of cricket we want to play here and fight every team.”
