Former Pakistan cricketer Abdul Razzak expressed concern over the lack of balance in the New Zealand team ahead of the T20I series against Pakistan starting on Friday. Some of the Kiwi players are currently in India for the current Indian Premier League (IPL) and some have been ruled out due to health issues. In a recent conversation, Razzak said the national team should be a top priority for cricketers and wondered how they got No Objection Certificates (NOCs).
“New Zealand should have sent a full team. Some players have gone to the IPL and some don’t fit. The show isn’t very interesting. They had a full squad in the test series and had some exciting matches. Looks like they just sent a command depending on the situation. I have no idea how players get NOCs when it comes to the national team. What are the criteria for NOCs because the first priority should always be the national side,” Razzak told Geo News.
Pakistan and New Zealand will face off in a series of five T20I matches.
At a time when the world of cricket is gripped by Indian Premier League (IPL) fever, the New Zealand tour of Pakistan, featuring five T20Is and as many ODIs, promises exciting international action.
Pakistan has named a stellar T20I line-up, bolstered by the return of Shaheen Afridi to play for the first time since the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final against England in November 2022.
Although he returned to international cricket after a four-month absence, Shaheen Afridi was busy collecting silver and setting records in Pakistan. During the last Pakistan Super League, a first-class player led Lahore Qalandars to victory, making him the first captain to win PSL twice.
Skipper Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman and Haris Rauf also returned to the team after missing out on the Afghan T20I series in Sharjah. Pakistan will be delighted to see their T20I star players back in action after being sorely missed in their 2-1 loss to Afghanistan.
