When the Gujarat Titans took a 6-wicket victory over the Punjab Kings on Thursday in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) game, the defending champions had a new hero. It was none other than experienced pacer Mohit Sharma, who at some point in his career was an Indian international. Mohit was a clean bowler for Guairat last year, but this year he has reaped the rewards of his hard work and has become part of the team’s first team. After his excellent performance against Punjab, Mohit started his return to the IPL with an emotional story.
Speaking after the match, Mohit revealed that he received a call from Gujarat Titans coach Ashish Nehra and offered to join the team as a net bowler. He thought that although it was not a playful role, it was still better than staying at home.
“There was excitement, but also nervousness about coming back in a few years. In the meantime, I was playing home cricket. Last year I played home cricket after returning from back surgery. Few people knew that I played home football. Pa to stay with the team. Gives you a lot of exposure. The environment in GT is great,” Mohit said during a break.
In the match, Mohit was Gujarat’s most efficient bowler, taking two wickets in just 18 runs from his 4 over quota.
After being named Man of the Match, Mohit expressed his confidence in coach Nehra.
“I had a good time at this stadium. I thought about sticking with my options, chatted with Hardik in the middle of the over, thankfully it paid off. You have to work hard and give 100%. situation and stick to the basics. I was given a role to play after 10 overs. The credit belongs to the coach, who defined the role of everyone in the team,” he said.
Mohit last played in the IPL in the 2019 season and was part of the Titans’ bowling division last year.
