The 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) produced another thrilling contest as the defending champions Gujarat Titans took a 6 wicket victory over the Punjab Kings on the penultimate ball of the match. It was Iceman Rahul Tewatia who scored the winning goal for his team when the last two goals required 4 runs. While the moment was understandably heroic, Ian Bishop’s comment on the matter was the icing on the cake.
Rahul Tewatia developed a habit of winning matches against Punjab. Last season, Guairat needed 12 shots from two final goals to win the match against the same opponents. Tewatia hit two sixes in a row, ending his side’s chase.
Although the task was not so serious this time, Tewatia was there to lead his team through the front lines.
After seeing Tewatia score the winning goal, Bishop said in a comment, “Ice man, Rahul Tewatia is doing it again. One of the most amazing IPL finishers in recent memory.”

Seeing another match end in a close-knit encounter, Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya said after the match that he would appreciate it if his team’s matches didn’t end the way they had in the last two games.
“Honestly, I wouldn’t want the game to go this far. We definitely learned a lot from this game. That’s the beauty of the sport, it’s never over until it’s over. We need to get back to the drawing board. “They hit very well. Luckily all our batters are in good shape. We have to take risks and shoot in the middle of the over to make sure the game doesn’t go so deep.”
“The ball was drying up, but the wicket was fine. Wasn’t surprised when Mohit and Alzarri went bowling. He did a lot of hard work, showed patience, and his time has come. [on Mohit]. It would be hard to swallow a pill if the game went the other way. I would like to finish the game earlier, not a big fan of finishing it,” he said after the match.
With the victory, Gujarat finished third in the points table.
