One of the main activities of public representatives is to demand that citizens be exemplary. Claiming that same exemplarity from politicians is unfair and demagogic. Also, we don’t know if it is effective, while it is immediately useful for pointing out unedifying behaviors in individuals (at least for political representatives). Exemplarity is a simple concept: to understand it one can read Javier Gomá Lanzón’s tetralogy, but in this context it means what is convenient for the politician who points out deviant behavior.
We have seen that a candidate pointed to a landlady and campaigns from the Ministry of Equality that allude to specific people. Former Vice President Iglesias is dedicated to warning journalists: he has done it all his career; he now practices it with those who were closest. The passion of the population for periodical deontology is well known: Vox has imitated Podemos in its relationship with the press, although now Iglesias has the added interest of business rivalry. It is above all surprising that the traditional systemic forces resort to certain procedures: the President of the Government when he affirms that Rafael del Pino is not a businessman committed to Spain or the letter addressed to the shareholders against the transfer of Ferrovial. Questioning the legal security of our country can be expensive for them: that is the final argument of the Government. Catalonia is always ahead and the authorities there are not limited to supervising powerful citizens. A famous journalist, a businessman or a rich son, an end of the day, easy prey. True courage is to control someone like Begoña Suárez, a nurse from Cádiz who worked at the Vall d’Hebron hospital and recorded a humorous video on TikTok during a break where she complained about being forced to take the C1 in Catalan to attend some oppositions. It is admirable that the UGT union took a position against the worker, that the Health Minister said that hers were intolerable, that an administrative file was opened and that the nurse was subjected to a fifty-minute interrogation in a language that she did not speak. .
The authorities cannot cower before the weak, especially if they believe they have the right to make a joke: nothing strips the powerful so much as being laughed at. @gascondaniel
